Creating equipment

Image:Snake_upperbody_humanmale.png

Equipment that is visible when worn must fit onto the character sprites in every frame. This means each piece of visible equipment is going to need a big sprite sheet. See also the current state of playerset development.

When you want to create a new equipment spriteset you should take the player spriteset (player_male_base.png and player_female_base in your tmw directory in the subfolder data/graphics/sprites) and draw your new equipment on a new layer over the player sprites. Every new piece of equipment should exist both for male and for female characters.

When you want to create headgears you have a lot less work to do. Here it is sufficient when you use one of the hair spritesets (hairstyle*.png) as a base.

Currently the following equipment pieces are possible:

  • Headgear
  • Torso armor
  • Leg armor

In the future we plan to have equipment sprites for shoes and maybe gloves and capes, too.

When designing equipment sprites keep the overlapping precedence in mind. Headgear is drawn over torso armor and torso armor over leg armor.
