From The Mana World

Sure, the passover was the date for Israelites to celebrate, and Jesus was "the passover lamb" in the Greek Scriptures, but to be a "version" of the Jewish Pessah is inaccurate. If it was to be a version, then it would be "pretty much the same thing", but according to scripture, the passover was first inaugurated on the release of the Israelites from bondage, where they had to splatter blood on their doors, after sacrificing the lamb between the two evenings, etc. The "easter" celebration doesn't entail any of this.

Also, what churches practice is NOT the biblical Christian idea of what was meant to be remembered on this day. The adoption of the pagan religions by the early church is the main influence for this holiday, including even the name's sound. It is based on the adoption from other common religions of the day, namely Babylonian religion which had spread far and wide, and even the Greek and Roman religions.
