Red Corsair Day was CRC's 12th birthday and also set grounds to Mirror Lake introduction.
The Event
CRC Captain Red Corsair is retired and living well on his own private island. He has been invited to attend CRC’s 12th anniversary celebration in Hurnscald, but will be unable to go. Instead, he will send his emissary, Cerise, to bring gifts to the participants.
In addition, Red Corsair has in his possession certain maps that show the secret locations of the Mirror Lakes in The Mana World. Mirror Lakes are magic portals that transport people (and seldomly, objects) between worlds. These maps are very valuable and must not get into the wrong hands. Red Corsair would like the maps to be given to the current leaders of CRC. He entrusts Cerise to deliver the maps.
Meanwhile, the evil pirate, Blanc, learns of the plan to deliver the maps to CRC. He is desperate to keep the maps away from CRC and get them for himself. Blanc knows the location of at least one Mirror Lake on his home world that will bring him to an area in the Clear Sea to the southeast of Hurnscald. He has used it in the past to his own great advantage. Blanc decides to travel through the Mirror Lake with his ship and go to Hurnscald in order to take the maps, by force if necessary. To help him, he brings powerful, ugly creatures.
CRC Captain Rill has been informed that Cerise will be coming to the celebration and bringing gifts from Red Corsair, but knows nothing of the maps or Mirror Lakes or Blanc. After finishing the Flower Power portion of the day’s proceedings, Rill urges participants to follow her to meet Cerise at the dock.
When the ship docks, it is not Cerise who disembarks, but Blanc. Blanc greets everyone and then demands the maps. (Blanc does not know that he has arrived at Hurnscald before Cerise.) Since Rill has not yet learned about the maps, she is totally confused by Blanc’s words and tells him so. Blanc repeats his demands, growing ever more furious. Rill again says that she does not know what he is talking about, and neither does anyone else there. Finally Blanc flies into a rage. He states that since they won’t give him the maps, he will occupy Hurnscald. Then he orders the creatures to attack.
The mobs are very strong. Unable to withstand the assault, Rill instructs participants to run up to the safety of the Mining Camp house. Some did not make it, and could be trapped inside buildings in Hurnscald. Rill may ask for volunteers to go back and help escort them to the Mining Camp. The Doctor and Constable Bob also helped.
Once all are inside the Mining Camp house, they begin to discuss the matter. Rill does not know what happened to Cerise, but says she saw another ship approaching the little cove east of the entrance to the Obelisk Cave. She thinks Cerise might be on that ship, so she asks everyone to follow her there.
When they get to the cove, the ship is there and Cerise disembarks. Cerise says she has been sent by Red Corsair and has gifts for everyone, to be given out later. She has also brought the maps. Cerise explains about the Mirror Lakes and the contents of the maps, and how valuable the maps are, and how they must be kept safe at all costs. Then Rill tells about the attack by Blanc and that he is after the maps. Cerise is very concerned by the news of Blanc’s appearance, and explains what she knows of Blanc.
Then Blanc and the creatures catch up to the group, who are now trapped at the cove. Cerise uses magic to provide everyone with an escape route (in the form of an IM prompt) which brings them to Nivalis.
After arriving at Nivalis, the group starts discussing what to do next. Suddenly the old troublemaker Zax De'kagen appears. But this time Zax offers to help. He says that he has a way to close the Mirror Lake portal in the Clear Sea so Blanc will be unable to use it to bring more attack ships or as an escape route. Cerise advises everyone to accept the offer, to which all agree. Zax closes the Mirror Lake portal, announces he has done so, and then departs.
The next matter is how to rid TMW of Blanc and his mobs. It seems the only way is to go on the offensive. So starting off from Nivalis, the participants make their way to the ferry, killing mobs that get in their path. Once back in Hurnscald, they continue attacking Blanc’s mobs until all are destroyed.
Now alone and trapped in Hurnscald, Blanc tries to outrun the crowd. But he is eventually defeated, and Wellvin, the one who delivered the deadly strike, received Blanc's old hat from CRC.
To conclude the day’s activities, there was picture taking and the distribution of Red Corsair’s gifts to the event participants: A Dragon Shield, brought from another server by using the Mirror Lake. Red Corsair’s only request was that those wishing to receive a gift should be wearing something red.
Trivia
Originally, Blanc was called "Dave Sugar", as a reference to one of the biggest player guilds, Holy Mana Clan.
Cerise was also named "Red Reidy" in the original drafts.
