Born from the Tree of Life along with his sister Kirin De'kagen, Zax's existence was unguided by the elemental spirit in the way that his sister's was. Because he could not speak to the world in the way she could, he eventually became jealous of her gifts and vanished to seek his own path in the world. Zax finds himself unable to manipulate mana in the form of magic, regardless of the blessings of any of the elemental spirits. He even acts somewhat like a mana magnet, sucking the life force out of those around him to a small degree. The very space around him becomes void of mana.
His body is covered with strange markings of an occult nature, which he himself did not know the significance of for many years. He exudes a frightening and oppressive aura to all around him, in part due to his tall stature and strong build, but also due to the void of mana that follows him.
Through Zax's searches, he is able to unravel the true nature of his existence as a seal against the mana that once filled the world. Because his exietance prevents others from using the power of mana to its fullest extent, he was for a time pursued by the six demons, eventually going into hiding, from which he has not been found. Rumors are spreading now that Zax may have found a way to tap into the powers of the old gods, given that he is a being also totally void of mana, just as they. If this is true, it effectively puts him on a level with the demons, each fighting to obtain mastery over the mana world. Perhaps he plans to beat them at their own game when the time comes...
