Heketch was appointed Sage of Darkness as the last survivor of his clan, brutally murdered by the army of one of the 6 demon lords. Alone and lost, he stumbled into the temple of Tenebrae, who took him under its wing as a child. Raised by Tenebrae, Heketch has a somber and reserved disposition. He isn't malicious, but shows little feeling for the plights of others.

More than any other sage, Heketch does not choose those he grants the power of Tenebrae based on their attainment of balance, but on their understanding of the nature of the element. Darkness is what fills the absence of all else. It must be held back by those who wield it, lest it consume the whole of the mana world without their guidance. To Heketch, the purpose of darkness is to hide that which must be concealed, to fill that which cannot be filled, and to place an end to every begining in its proper time.

The physical appearance of the sage is a mystery, as he hides behind a cloak of darkness most of the time, showing only his face, which is pale and sickly. He lives in the temple of darkness alone, though sometimes entertaining artists whose work he finds particularly to his taste (which is pensive, and often macabre). Because of his past experiences, Heketch is often averse to humans, especially those of races similar to the ones that slaughtered his family.
