Not much is truthfully known about Garathos. To humans, he has resided at the temple of light for all memory. He is a hearty and light-spirited, if slightly aged, man, often bursting into song in the temple for no readily evident reason, and bears a fond love for all beings who cross the threshold of his home. Uplifting the spirits of those around him, he seems not to bear a care in the world.

In truth, however, Garathos hides several bitter secrets behind his smiling face. He was once an adventurer, seeking treasure and glory in the darkest of places. Once, hearing of a great treasure to be had, he ventured into the seething blackness of the lair of an ancient demonic beast. None are certain what transpired within that labyrinthine abyss, but he was driven to the brink of madness by the time he emerged.

Wandering in a delusional and deranged state, he eventually came upon the temple of light. Lumine, seeing his plight, took him in, mended his wounds, and eased his shattered mind. Realizing his fortune, Garathos was quick to renounce the adventurer's life to devote himself to the temple of light, quickly earning the title of sage. Devotedly spreading the news of his benefactor, the young sage attracted several pupils, whom he now endeavors to train in the ways of the light.

Now, only his somewhat eccentric habits and odd appearance betray anything of his past. A lit lantern, his most prized possession, is ever with him, even in full daylight. None ever see his eyes, for they are ever hidden behind a thick blindfold, "to protect my eyes from the full brilliance of the light, and that I might never look upon the shadows of this world again." None is certain what would happen if Garathos' eyes were ever again revealed.
